WHAT IS SCC-NMWA?
The Southern California Committee (SCC) is a nonprofit volunteer organization established in 1990 as a supporting organization for the National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA). It is SCC NMWA’s goal to support the National Museum of Women in the Arts and to increase public awareness of the work of California’s women artists locally and nationally.

Located in Washington, DC, the National Museum of Women in the Arts is the first museum in the world solely dedicated to championing women through the arts.

NMWA MISSION
The National Museum of Women in the Arts brings recognition to the achievements of women artists of all periods and nationalities by exhibiting, preserving, acquiring, and researching art by women and by teaching the public about their accomplishments.
SCC NMWA HISTORY
The Southern California Committee (SCC) is a nonprofit volunteer organization established in 1990 as a supporting organization for the National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA).
NMWA opened in Washington, DC in 1987 and is the world’s primary museum dedicated to bringing recognition to the achievements of women artists of all periods and nationalities. NMWA present exhibits; preserves, acquires and researches art by women; and educates the public to the accomplishments of women artists. NMWA develops and maintains a national directory of women artists.
It is SCC NMWA’s goal to support the National Museum of women in the Arts and to increase public awareness of the work of California’s women artist locally and nationally.
Every three years, the museum presents Women to Watch. a dynamic collaboration between the museum and its network of outreach committees including SCCNMWA. Our committee works with curators to create shortlists of artists representing Southern California. NMWA curators select the local artist for exhibition in the museum.
