SCC-NMWA Committee Membership

SCC NMWA aims to build active and ongoing local support for women in the arts by:

  • Educating our membership by visiting artists’ studios, galleries, and meeting prominent women artists for lectures and discussions, and touring museums and private collections

  • On occasion, sponsoring exhibitions of merit which showcase outstanding and emerging Southern California women artists

  • Individual “Advocate Plus” membership to NMWA which includes membership card, a subscription to NMWA’S quarterly magazine Women in the Arts, and a 10% discount to the Museum’s shop and café.

We have worked hard to create a diverse and engaging program that will appeal to all of our members. We will make an effort when possible to schedule our visits on our traditional 3rd Thursday of the month.

SCC NMWA has sponsored:

  • Multiple Vantage Points exhibition February 2007 at the Municipal Art Gallery, Los Angeles, CA, as a co-sponsor and joint organizer.

  • The SCC NMWA organized exhibition Generation of Mentors at NMWA in Washington, DC and Mt. St. Mary’s in Los Angeles. This exhibition presented Southern California women artists born in the first three decades of the 20th Century.

  • Exhibitions of women artists at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Skirball Cultural Center, the Pasadena Museum of California Art, and the Hammer Museum,

  • The purchase of a June Wayne lithograph for LACMA.

  • A symposium at USC as co-sponsor of Women Making It in the Arts.

  • A summer student internship program at NMWA for a Southern California student.

  • Funding of art supplies for Para Los Niño’s Charter Elementary School in downtown Los Angeles.

  • Gifted NMWA with an original oil painting by Helen Lundeberg (1908 – 1999) entitled Shadow of the Bridge 1, 1962 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of NMWA in 2011.

  • Southern California artist Jennifer Celio in NMWA’s “Women to Watch 2015”

  • The Judy Chicago’s Birth Project: Born Again exhibition, June 17, 2018–October 7, 2018 at the Pasadena Museum of California Art.

  • Artist Kerianne Quick in NMWA’s Heavy Metal -Women to Watch 2018 and her trip to Washington, DC for the exhibition opening.

  • Artist Echiko Ohira in NMWA’s Paper Routes—Women to Watch 2020 and trip to Washington, DC for the exhibition for the artist and the curator Holly Jerger.
