Join us for a thought-provoking journey into the world of printmaking and public art! Founded in 1976 by artist and activist Judy Baca, the Social and Public Art Resource Center remains a beacon for community-driven art that sparks conversation, social change, and cultural memory.
When: 11:00 AM – Meet at SPARC
685 N. Venice Blvd., Venice, CA 90291
Convenient parking available in two nearby municipal lots
We begin at SPARC with the "At the Threshold 2024" exhibition, an artistic exploration of uncertainty through the lens of 24 printmakers from South Africa and the United States—two nations at pivotal moments in their democratic histories.
SCCNMWA member Jackie Nach will share insights into the origins of the exhibit, discuss her own contributions, and introduce fellow artists, Sydney Cross and Linda Lyke. They will also introduce the African artists who collaborated with them, bridging ideas across continents and sparking a global artistic dialogue.
NEXT STOP: Bergamot Station
It’s a quick drive to Bergamot Station for a delightful lunch at Le Great Outdoor.
2525 Michigan Ave, Santa Monica, CA 90404
If inclement weather, we will have a back-up luncheon plan.
AFTER LUNCH: We’ll visit SPARC’s Bergamot location to witness the ongoing expansion of Judy Baca’s The Great Wall of Los Angeles—an extraordinary mural project chronicling untold histories. With plans to add 2,740 more feet of storytelling before the 2028 LA Olympics, this monumental work continues to honor diverse voices and narratives.
You will remember the working installation at LACMA; this is a continuation and the next chapter in Baca’s legendary public art masterpiece.
